The Art of Wine: A World Tour- This class focuses on the vibrant connection between fine wines and seminal works of art, literature, music and film by the masters that hail from the same region in a riveting multimedia presentation. The class will takes place in 4 parts, each session focusing on the food, art and wine of a different region- The Mediterranean, South Africa/New Zealand/Australia, The West Coast of the United States and South America. The Art of Wine: A European Tour- Experience the vibrant connection between fine wines and seminal works of art, literature, music and film by the masters that hail from the same region in a riveting, multimedia presentation. Each session is devoted to the wine and art of a different European country- France, Spain, Italy and Germany. We sample four wines at each class with food matches to each wine and works of art. Old World versus New World- This class takes 3 grape varietals around the world to examine the differences between Old World and New World approaches to the same grape in different climates and wine-making styles. Students will learn to identify grape varietals from particular regions of the world, as well as some food and wine pairing techniques. The class will feature Old World and New World examples of: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah along with cheese pairings from each country to match the wine. A Nose is a Nose is a Nose: A Component Tasting- A look at how wine and wine-making is influenced by terroir and typicity. Students will assess a variety of wines side-by-side with an assortment of herbs, spices, rock composites, fruits, etc. that exemplify the components often reflected in the nose and on the palate. We will also discuss the basics of Biodynamic and Organic wine-making. Each class will feature 5 wines of all different varietals from various regions of the world and will be accompanied by food pairings. Class offered at The Artisan Wine Gallery on Lummi Island.
Introduction to Wine: The Five S’s of Wine Tasting- This class focuses on the principles of wine history and culture and the basic techniques of wine tasting and analysis. An introduction to wine terminology, wine-pairing and how to buy inexpensive wine based on reading the label and knowing the region. Enjoyed with 5 wines and artisanal cheeses and charcuterie. Class offered at The Artisan Wine Gallery on Lummi Island.
French Conversation- This course focuses on basic conversational French, including common phrases used while traveling, ordering food, shopping, greetings and salutations, colloquial speech, useful slang words, pronunciation and grammar. The class will meet once a week for 8 weeks and students will use interactive techniques to become proficient in the French language. It may also be necessary for students to drink French wine and eat French Food! Class offered at The Artisan Wine Gallery on Lummi Island.
